Allamakee County Authorities Release Update on Agri-Star Meat Plant Fire

• At 03:56 am the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of smoke coming from a building at Agri Star meat plant located at 220 West Street, Postville, Iowa.
• The Postville fire department responded to the call.
• Multiple fire departments were called to assist due to the extent of the fire. • No injuries were reported or occurred as a result of this incident at this time. • The city of Postville is requesting residents to restrict water usage until further
notice due to the large volume of city water being used to combat this fire. • If you have health issues or breathing problems, be aware of the air quality. • The fire is creating a large smoke plume that is currently traveling SW away from the city of Postville.
• The smoke plume situation is being actively monitored, and information will be disseminated by local radio, tv and a trusted social media source should the need arise.
• There is currently no evacuation or shelter in place order at this time. • Residents are being asked to continue to stay aware of the situation and be aware if the wind was to switch direction and the smoke affects the city of Postville. • Updates from the city of Postville will come from the city's Facebook page.
