Clayton County Authorities Release Information on Two-Vehicle Accident and Charges Filed on Four Other Incidents

On August 28, 2026, at approximately 10:22 p.m., Clayton County deputies arrested Benjamin Schutterle, 21, of Lowden, on charges of driving while license suspended, failure to maintain SR-22 insurance, and excessive speed. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on Highway 52 near Millville Road for a speeding violation.


On September 1, 2026, at approximately 5:26 p.m., Clayton County deputies were dispatched to Highway 18 near Eagle Drive for the report of a two-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that John Gale, 64, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, was traveling westbound on Highway 18 in a blue 2008 Honda Odyssey when he made an unsafe stop following an aggressive driving incident. Gale's vehicle was struck from behind by a blue 2019 Peterbilt truck operated by Craig Underbakke, 60, of Decorah. Gale was determined to be at fault for the crash and was cited for unsafe stopping or braking. Assisting the Clayton County Sheriff's Office at the scene were the Mar-Mac Police Department, McGregor Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, and Gundersen Ambulance.


On September 3, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Clayton County deputies issued a summons to Paul Ludovissy, 64, of Holy Cross, for harassment in the third degree. The summons stemmed from an incident that occurred on Main Street in North Buena Vista.


On September 9, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m., Clayton County deputies arrested Jose Rosales, 42, of Oelwein, on charges of driving while license revoked, driving while license suspended, excessive speed, and operating a non-registered vehicle. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on Highway 18 near Klein Brewery Road for a speeding violation.


On September 12, 2026, at approximately 9:27 p.m., Clayton County deputies arrested Stephen Ingles, 54, of Garber, on charges of operating while under the influence – second offense, driving while license revoked, operating without a required ignition interlock device, failure to provide proof of financial liability, and excessive speed. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on Colesburg Road near Osterdock Road for a speeding violation.
