Correne Ann Hellmann, 91, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Loving Wife. Mother. Grandma. Sister. Aunt. Daughter. Friend. Gardener. Poet. Farmher. Correne was born in the Spring of 1935 near Guttenberg, Iowa. The daughter of Arnold and Hattie (Miller) Hess, Correne grew up beside her dad farming with horses near the bluffs of the Mississippi River.

She was an Irish twin to her younger sister Bernadette. Since they both started school together, it enabled the little country school to stay open another year. Together they graduated from Saint Boniface Catholic School in New Vienna and continued their adventure together getting different jobs in the Dubuque area. Family meant a lot to Correne. Her bond with her brothers and sisters was special and eternal.

After meeting a young man named Cletus at the New Vienna dance hall, Correne was united in marriage to Cletus L. Hellmann at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa. After starting out in the Dubuque area and then traveling to Peosta, they finally ventured to a small community called Ryan and together they built a life on the farm. It was the perfect place to raise their three children, Alan, Sue and Jean.

Correne is survived by her loving husband, Cletus; her three children Alan (Joan), Sue (Dan), and Jean (Dave); her grandchildren, Jessie (Chris), Angie (Max), Levi (Katie), and Luke (fiancé Hannah); her great-grandchildren, Landon, Eli, Isabella, and Carver; two sisters Janice Roling and Leola (Tom) Sperfslage; and sister-in-law’s, Barb Hess, Eileen Hellmann, Mary Hellmann, Eileen (Ed) Prier, and Angie Kruse.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Hattie Hess; her infant daughter, Lynn Marie; brothers Carl, Dennis and Donnie Hess; her sisters Bernie (Leo) Wiegel, Helene (Ralph) Oberbroeckling, Grace (Dick) Roling; in-laws Daniel Roling, Germaine (Johnny) Langel, Bernice (Chuck) Thole, Ambrose Hellmann, Charlie Hellmann, Delores (Dave) Putz, and Ralph Recker.
