Mary Louise Parkinson of Edgewood

Mary Louise Parkinson, 89, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. She was born on September 11, 1936, in Manchester, the daughter of Aloysious and Eleanora (Kramer) Schnieders. Mary enjoyed playing basketball during her high school years and was also a cheerleader for the boys’ basketball team. She was very involved in 4-H and earned many ribbons and trophies for cooking, sewing, and showing cattle. Mary graduated from Oneida High School. She then embarked on a career in baking at Martens Bakery in Manchester.
On August 21, 1959, Mary was united in marriage to Darold Parkinson, and they resided east of Edgewood. Five children were born to this union. Mary continued her love for baking with a home-based business from which she retired. She loved gardening, canning, and sewing. Mary loved her family and cherished spending time with them.
Survivors include her five children, Darla Kelchen of Strawberry Point, Marla (Larry) Chapman of Earlville, Dena (Tod) Struck of Florida, Kathy (Ron) Riechers of Lamont, and Bobbi (Mark) Lukan of New Vienna; ten grandchildren, Dusty Kelchen, Jessie Cooksley, Jennifer Poppe, Stacey Miller, Garret Struck, Caleb Sullivan, Rachelle Feldmann, Rusty Feldmann, Ryan Riechers, and Jodi Riechers; 17 great-grandchildren, Dakota Cooksley, Clayton Cooksley, Karley Ann Cooksley, Samantha Kelchen, Henry Kelchen, Hadley Kelchen, Thomas Kelchen, Silas Poppe, Grace Poppe, Declan Sullivan, Lyla Sullivan, Kashten Miller, Lennox Miller, Bowen Miller, Tiffany Riechers, Whitney Riechers, Ross Riechers, and Skyler Jaster; brother, Leroy Schnieders; sister, Shirley Hallet; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Schnieders; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darold in 2013; two sons-in-law, Tom Kelchen and Del Timmerman; siblings, LaVerne (Mary) Schnieders, Merrel Schnieders, and Ilene (Joseph) O’Connell; sister-in-law, Valene Schnieders; and brother-in-law, Albert Hallet.
The New Vienna/ Luxemburg Fire Department will be attending the visitation at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood, Iowa, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson presiding.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, August 17, 2026, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood where there will be a 3:30 p.m. Rosary Service. Friends may also call from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.
Interment: Edgewood Cemetery, Edgewood, Iowa
