From the Delaware County Sheriff's Department Facebook Page--
Today, Deputy Austin Zuercher and Reserve Deputy Michael Nesteby were awarded the Delaware County Medal of Merit.
This award honors first responders who demonstrate outstanding service and perseverance beneficial to the county.
In April, both deputies responded to a 911 call for a 2 year old child in severe respiratory distress. Recognizing the urgency, they instructed the child’s mother that they needed to begin transport immediately to meet EMS en route. This quick action likely helped save the child’s life as EMS later confirmed the child’s oxygen level had dropped to a dangerously low 60%.
Their sound judgment, calm under pressure, and commitment to protecting life reflect the very best of our Office.
Congratulations, Deputy Zuercher and Reserve Deputy Nesteby, on this well deserved recognition.
