Dubuque County Authorities on Presidential visit to Dubuque
For security purposes we cannot provide the route for President Trump to travel from the Airport to the Five Flags Center. However, there are a few things to expect during his visit. No unauthorized personnel will be allowed at the Dubuque Regional Airport. Please do not attempt to come out there “…just to see what’s going on.” You will not be allowed down either Airport Road, Aviation Drive, or on the observation deck. If you happen to have an abandoned or parked vehicle along the route, it must be moved prior to the President moving through. Therefore, there is no grace period to move parked vehicles. Any abandoned vehicle in that area will be towed at the owner’s expense. People are also not allowed to congregate on overpasses. Anyone appearing to do so will be moved along.
The downtown area around 5 Flags will have significant travel disruptions on Sunday afternoon. Please account for this if you need to be in the area for any purpose. Also, although American citizens have a right to bear arms, firearms are restricted when you go to an event involving the President of the United States, for what should be obvious reasons. Yes, this has occurred in the past, and yes, the people were told to return their firearms to their vehicle, which resulted in the individuals missing the event. Please leave them in your car or at home to help us avoid any uncomfortable conversations.
Protesters are allowed anywhere the general public is allowed. Please stick with expressing your opinions via signage or verbally. Anything thrown, launched, or considered assaultive will likely result in a criminal charge. Also, please keep in mind, the officers, deputies, and security personnel are simply doing their job as directed by Chief Messerich and I. Kindness and respectfulness towards them will be appreciated. Help us help you enjoy this event in whichever way you see fit. Thanks, and stay safe!
