Elkport woman found guilty on three charges in connection with a fatal accident in Clayton County

An Elkport woman has been found guilty on three charges in connection with a fatal accident in Clayton County. Susan J. Steve was found guilty of Homicide by Vehicle, Serious Injury by Vehicle and Possession of Marijuana. Steve was charged in connection with an October 2024 accident on Grandview Road near Elkader. 63-year old Randy McMillan of rural Elkader was operating a UTV, attempted to turn into a private drive and was struck from behind by a vehicle operated by Steve. Randy McMillan died in the crash and his passenger, Mary Ann McMillan, was seriously injured. A Clayton County Jury deliberated for about two hours on Wednsday before reaching a guilty verdict on the three charges against Steve. The Homocide by Vehicle charge carries a mandatory prison sentence. Sentencing for Steve is currently set for March 10th.
