On January 10th, 2026, at approximately 12:29 p.m., a Garnavillo police officer was conducting stationary patrol on Main Street when they observed a vehicle travelling 13 miles per hour above the posted speed limit in the 20-mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated for the speed violation at Main Street and Centre Street. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer noticed that the driver was extremely nervous and kept asking to exit the vehicle. An investigation was initiated based off of this behavior, and the driver eventually admitted to possessing a controlled substance. Subsequently, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, which additionally yielded drug paraphernalia. Addison Batten, of Clermont, IA, was charged by Garnavillo P.D. with Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, No Insurance, and Speeding.
