Hawkeye man arrested on Obstruction and Possession Charges; Cedar Rapids man charged after traffic stop; Saint Olaf woman charged after driving complaint

On April 20th, 2026, at approximately 3:39 a.m. Fayette County Deputies were called to the 200 block of W. Main Street in Hawkeye in reference to an abandoned 911 emergency call. Upon arrival deputies were flagged down by a female party advising she needed medical attention. Upon investigating, it was learned that the female party’s call had been obstructed. Further investigation led to a search warrant for the property of 228 W. Main Street in Hawkeye, IA and subsequently Brian Coonradt age, 62 of Hawkeye was arrested and charged with obstruction of emergency communications and possession of controlled substance 3rd or subsequent. Coonradt was transported to the Fayette County Jail and held pending initial appearance with a judge.

On April 20th, 2026, at approximately 3:34 PM, a Fayette County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red 2013 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ in the 20000 blk of Cedar Road, Elgin, IA. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the registered owner and driver, Clauma Augustin (age 37) of Cedar Rapids, IA was driving with a suspended license, no SR-22 on file, and no insurance. Clauma was placed under arrest for Driving While License Suspended & No Proof of Financial Liability and transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was held for his initial appearance. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Torkelson Motors.
On 4/21/2026 at approximately 5:11 AM Fayette County Deputies were called to the area of G Avenue and Highway 3 in reference to a driving complaint. Fayette County Communications took reports from 911 callers that a red truck was traveling down the wrong side of the roadway, traveling at slow speeds, and had almost collided head on with an oncoming vehicle. While traveling to the incident deputies were notified that the vehicle in question had pulled into a residence located at the 14,000 block of highway 3. Upon arrival deputies identified the driver as Kimberly L. Opfer age, 56 of St. Olaf as the driver of the red 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche. Upon completion of the investigation into the incident Mrs. Opfer was charged with operating while intoxicated second offense and driving on wrong side of two-way highway. She was held at the Fayette County Jail pending appearance with a judge or magistrate.
