House destroyed, nearby home damaged by fire in Garber

A house was destroyed and a nearby home was damaged in a fire that occurred in Garber. Six area fire departments were called at around 1pm on Wednesday to the Dirk Fishback home, located near the Anchor Inn. The fire started near the garage and the small home is a total loss. A house next door, owned by Joe Kann, received porch and attic damage after the fire spread due to strong winds. Fire Departments from Garber, Edgewood, Colesburg, Guttenberg, Garnavillo and Littleport were all at the scene. Crews were on the scene until 7pm. No injuries reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
