Iowa DNR reveals updated water usage permit for Pattison Sand

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has reveled an updated water usage permit for the Pattison Sand Company. The information was revealed at a public meeting in Garnavillo on Tuesday. The permit lowers the annual water usage from 3.8-billion gallons down to 2.3-billion. KCRG reports that the new permit removes any use of water from the Mississippi River. Among other items, Pattison must also monitor a guard well at the facility ever month and the city of Garnavillo will also independently monitor water levels monthly. The public comment period on the permit ends July 7th, final approval may be completed on July 8th.
