Luana Council

Luana City Council Minutes of May 2, 2024

The Luana City Council held their regular monthly meeting Thursday May 2, 2024, at 7:00 pm. with Council Members Lonnie Baade, Kevin Boddicker, Todd Olson, Jackie Radloff-Schneider, Luke Steege present. Absent: None.

Mayor Jerry Schroeder called meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Minutes of Proposed Property Tax Hearing meeting were reviewed and approved upon a motion by Radloff-Schneider, second by Steege, carried unanimously.

Minutes of April meeting were reviewed and approved upon a motion by Radloff-Schneider, second by Boddicker, carried unanimously.

Minutes of April budget meeting were reviewed and approved upon a motion by Steege, second by Olson, carried unanimously.

Boddicker motioned to pay all monthly claims totaling $49,361.06, Radloff-Schneider second, carried unanimously. Receipts for the month totaled $66,696.75. Steege motioned to pass Res. 5-2024 T.O.F, Olson second, carried unanimously. Council reviewed reconciled reports.

The Mayor announced that this was the time and place for the public hearing and meeting on the matter of the 2024 Budget Amendment at 7:05 pm. The Mayor then asked the Administrator whether any written objections had been filed by any City resident or property owner to the proposal. The Administrator advised the Mayor and the Council that no written objections had been filed. The Mayor then called for oral objections to the proposal and none were made. Whereupon the Mayor declared the time for receiving oral and written objections to be closed Radloff-Schneider motioned to pass Res. 5.1-2024 FY2024 Budget Amendment, Boddicker second, carried unanimously. Whereupon the Mayor declared the measure duly adopted.

Humble gave update on Lagoon Project. Boundary stakes have been set for proposed new lagoon cell. MSA completed topographic survey, base mapping, and sanitary sewer utilities. City is still waiting on nine distance waivers to be returned. Without these waivers the city may be forced to go another route which could result in costing the city and residents, at least, four times as much for the required update.

Steege motioned to renew Proprietary CD in the amount of $14,232.11 at Luana Savings Bank for twelve months, Boddicker second, carried unanimously.

Steege motioned to approve the renewal of the Cigarette/Tobacco and Liquor license for Luana Tavern, Boddicker second, carried unanimously. Olson abstained from voting.

Luana Community Club requested permission to place a double-sided lighted sign for community announcements. Consensus of council to table until next meeting so more information could be provided.

Fencing for new city dog park will be placed the weekend of May 3rd weather permitting.

Next regular council meeting will be held June 6, 2024, at 7:00 pm.

Mayor Schroeder adjourned the meeting at 7:30 pm.
