From the Main Street Elkader Facebook Page---
We're excited to announce that Main Street Elkader has been awarded a $100,000 Main Street Iowa Challenge Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA)!
The awarded funding will go toward rehabilitating the building next to Schera’s at 107 S. Main Street, owned by Frédérique Boudouani & Brian Bruening! This project will establish a new first floor, retail space on South Main Street, complete with an updated facade and prepare the building for a complete second story overhaul, creating two one-bedroom apartment units complete with separate outside entrances and a patio view out the back, overlooking the Turkey River!
As IEDA Director Debi Durham said, "When we invest in our main streets, we’re investing in the places where people come together." This grant is not just about one building—it’s about stimulating economic growth and leveraging further private investment right here in our historic downtown!
A big thank you to the IEDA and the Iowa Downtown Resource Center/Main Street Iowa programs for believing in our community.
NOTE: These renderings and drawings are NOT final, but give you a good idea of the improvements projected to be made upon completion.
