Manchester man found guilty of 1979 Cedar Rapids Murder appealing verdict

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Manchester man found guilty of a murder 47 years ago is filing another appeal. Jerry Burns was convicted of the December 1979 murder of Michelle Martinko in the parking lot of Westdale Mall just six years ago, after the case went unsolved for decades. Now Burns says he wasn't provided with adequate council. He claims his lawyer didn't thoroughly question the DNA evidence taken from a straw Burns used that matched DNA from the crime scene. The Iowa Supreme Court has denied all of Burns previous appeals.
