Important Announcement for Marquette Residents
As part of our commitment to maintaining a reliable and safe water supply system, the Water Department will be replacing the water reservoir on the “bench”. This essential infrastructure upgrade will ensure clean, safe, and dependable water for years to come. However, during the replacement period, the water supply will be limited, and we are calling on all residents and businesses to actively participate in water conservation efforts. All quality standards will be met to maintain safe drinking water. Any changes in taste or clarity are temporary and safe.
Project Timeline
The removal of the existing structure will begin July 31 and installation of the new reservoir is scheduled for next week. During this period, there may be temporary disruptions or reductions in water pressure, and the community will be operating on a reduced reserve. This makes conscientious and collective water conservation even more crucial.
Water Conservation Recommendations
We urge all community members to implement the following water-saving practices throughout the reservoir replacement period:
In the Home
· Take shorter showers and avoid filling bathtubs
· Turn off the tap while brushing teeth or shaving
· Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
· Fix any leaks in faucets, toilets, or pipes promptly
· Reuse water where possible, such as collecting shower water for plants
In the Garden
· Water lawns and gardens sparingly, and only during the early morning or evening to minimize evaporation
· Use mulch to retain soil moisture
· Postpone planting new lawns or gardens until after the project is completed
· Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks
Reason for the Reservoir Replacement
Aging infrastructure can compromise water quality and supply reliability. The current reservoir, which has served the community for decades, now requires replacement due to natural wear and tear, potential leaks, and advancements in safety standards. Modernizing the reservoir will improve water storage capacity, enhance system efficiency, and safeguard the community’s long-term water needs.
Your Role Makes a Difference
Through collective effort and mindful habits, our community can ensure that everyone has access to sufficient water for essential needs during this important infrastructure upgrade. Even small changes—like fixing a leaky faucet or delaying car washes—can result in significant water savings when multiplied across several of households.
