Mental Health Support Groups

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental illnesses are experiences that affect nearly everyone in some way. In the U.S. 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year. Only half of them receive treatment. NAMI Northeast Iowa rejects the stigma and discrimination too often experienced by those living with mental illness and seeks to provide support for both those individuals and the people who care about them. We aim for improvement of coping skills and believe that there is strength in sharing experiences.

Help is available for both those living with a mental health condition and their family members. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) provides support groups led by trained facilitators that offer a safe place for people to both receive and contribute support to others with whom they have something in common.

NAMI Support Groups are:

·         Free of cost to participants

·         Confidential

·         Led by trained peer facilitators
