Michael "Mike" Dean Stegen of Strawberry Point

Micheal “Mike” Dean Stegen, passed away December 31, 2025, in Manchester, Iowa, of natural causes. He was 70 years old. Mike was a Christian, a father and a husband. He was born in Manchester, and grew up in Strawberry Point. Mike was fond of his memories of growing up in northeast Iowa with his parents, Mary Ann (Nelsen) and Dean; his sister, Patti; and his brother, Dan.


Mike graduated from Starmont High School and attended various colleges and universities. His life took him through Fort Dodge, Albuquerque, Tucson, Phoenix and St. Louis. He was working as a salesman at Graybar Electric Company when he met Sandy Hammond and quickly married her at All Saints Lutheran Church. Anne was born in 1991 and Jesse followed in 1992. The girls were Mike’s pride and joy. He stayed home with his daughters, raising them, taking them to school and on various adventures.


He sold gun books online and at gun shows across the country. Mike was a current member of Mission in Christ Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. He became active in Freemasonry in Arizona. He was proud of serving in roles including Past Grand Commander of Arizona Knights Templar and Past Master of Camelback Daylight Lodge. Mike was a life-long member of Pleasant Point Grange.


Mike loved animals, especially his heart dog, Hans. He enjoyed C.J. Box books, Walmart sales, Ford trucks and long-haul road trips.


He is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Sandy; parents, Mary Ann and Dean; brother Daniel; and grandparents, Edith and Peter Stegen and Katherine and Nels Nelsen.


Mike is survived by his daughters Anne (Jesse) James and Jesse Stegen; and sister Patti (Kirk) Miller.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Mission in Christ Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating.


Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Friends may also call 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church.


Interment: Cass Township Cemetery in Strawberry Point, Iowa
