The damage survey team from the National Weather Service in La Crosse
has preliminarily confirmed an EF-2 tornado in Allamakee County
Wednesday afternoon, June 17th. Significant tree damage was noted along
its path, along with some destroyed farm outbuildings and minor
damage to a few residences. The magnitude of damage suggests
estimated peak wind speeds of up to 115 mph, which is on the low-end
of EF-2 tornado strength.
The tornado touched down about 5.5 miles east-northeast of Waukon,
and continued on an east-southeast track, crossing the Mississippi
River before continuing into Crawford County. The team
will continue surveying the damage across Crawford and northeast
Grant counties this afternoon.
Details remain preliminary, and more information is expected to
be released yet this afternoon or evening once the team concludes its survey.
