Oelwein Police release information on minor accident and other incidents

At 1:56pm on June 11, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the Dollar Tree parking lot. A blue 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Eli Wayss, 19, of Oelwein, was backing out of a parking space when they struck the driver side of a gray 2013 Dodge Journey, driven by Jan Vandewalker, 66, of Oelwein. Wayss was assigned fault for the accident, and initial estimates of damages were negligible damage to the vehicle driven by Wayss and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Vandewalker.
At 2:25pm on June 11, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to reports of people fighting in the 500 block of 5th St NE, leading to the arrest of Tanner Jonathan-Leslie Guyer, 22, of Oelwein. Guyer was charged with Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor, and was issued a summons to court for the violation.
On June 9, 2026, at 11:04pm, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave Se. As a result of the traffic stop, Andrew Richard Johnson Jr, 31, of Oelwein was issued a summons into court for Driving While License Suspended. Additionally, Johnson received an Equipment Repair Order for a non-functioning headlight.
