Robert Bruce Nieman (known by most as Bruce), 79, of Manchester, Iowa, ended his journey on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. He was born on December 14, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the first-born of Robert “Bob” and Doris (Knickerbocker) Nieman. Bruce was raised and for a majority of his life, lived in Manchester, Iowa. Bruce was known for his steady presence, sharp mind, curious nature, and unwavering devotion to his family, faith, and community.
On June 22, 1974, Bruce was united in marriage to Jeanette LeGassick at the United Methodist Church in Manchester. They began their journey into parenthood in 1977, eventually welcoming four daughters. Family was central to Bruce’s life, and he found joy in time spent with his daughters, grandchildren, cousins, and other family members near and far. He was deeply proud of the incredible humans his daughters became.
Bruce was an avid learner completing a Bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in agronomy at Iowa State University. Bruce went on to the University of Iowa and was awarded a Master’s degree in modern British history. Bruce started his career in education and transitioned to agricultural development with a focus on swine nutrition. His expertise also led him to business ventures in swine production and nutrition. He found joy in being an entrepreneur and advocate in local, national, and international forums for the agricultural community that he served and helped thrive. He took pride in building relationships, sharing knowledge, and supporting farmers and businesses in ways that helped them succeed.
Bruce was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manchester and his faith was very important to him. He was engaged in the life and progress of his community and actively committed to its betterment. He was a passionate student of history—especially the period around the American Civil War. He also enjoyed bird hunting, Ohio State football, and just about anything sports or games. Many family memories were shaped by these passions—including trips centered on history and visiting battlefields, spirited games, and time spent outdoors together. He believed in contributing where he could and leaving things better than he found them.
Bruce will be remembered for his intellect, integrity, and unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community. He is survived by his four daughters, Jamie Nieman (Josh Wells), Kelly Nieman, Kristin Nieman (Ryan Warren),
and Megan Nieman (Ryan From); five grandchildren, Mia, Riley, Blaik, Emma, and Isla; and his sister, Carla Nieman; along with many beloved members of his extended family. His legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jeanette.
