Roberta Mae Timmerman Weis of Manchester

Roberta Mae Timmerman Weis, 83, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at The Meadows in Manchester. She was born on August 29, 1942, in Oelwein, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (McDowell) Timmerman. Roberta was raised on a farm north of Strawberry Point until the family moved to Manchester in 1956. She attended country school, then went to Strawberry Point Consolidated School, before completing her schooling in Manchester. Roberta was a 1960 graduate of Manchester High School.


On September 2, 1960, Roberta was united in marriage to Joe Lewis. Six children were born to this union. Roberta worked as a nurse’s aide until 1967 when the couple divorced. She then worked at Triangle Factory in Winthrop until it closed. She helped her mother care for her father until his death in 1980. In 1980, Roberta returned to school at Hawkeye Tech as part of their nursing program and became a licensed practical nurse. She said this was a very trying year for her, but her children were so good at helping her. Roberta worked at MHI from 1981 until her retirement in 2003. She then returned to work from July 2004 until 2010.


In July of 2003, Roberta was married to her loving husband, John Weis, in Independence.


Survivors include her six children, Judy (Gary) Dittrick of Manchester, Julie (Dave) Steinbron of Manchester, Kenny (Jill) Lewis of Manchester, Brenda (Mark) Lewis-Morehouse of Evansdale, Lynn (Kim) Lewis of Quasqueton, and Jim (Toni) Lewis of Cedar Rapids; 19 grandchildren, Heather, Josh, Joe, Shane, Randy, Trisha, Rachel, Sarah, Jared, Nick, Christy, Brittany, Deana, Jacob, Alissa, Austin, Hanah, Derek, and Ashlee; 37 great-grandchildren; and honorary sister, Jackie Morehouse.


Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Weis; sister and brother-in-law, Etta and Chet Hamlett; two brothers; and a sister at birth.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa, with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. There will be a 11:00 a.m. Nursing Honor Guard service.


Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.


Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa
