Some Livestock Euthanized Following Semi Accident, Authorities Release Information on Arrest and Minor Accident

On July 13th, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident in the 9000 block of Eisenhower Rd. When deputies arrived it was learned that Michael Wilson, of Waucoma, was driving a 2017 Kenworth pulling a loaded livestock trailer when he lost control navigating a curve in the road. The semi and trailer rolled into the ditch. Some of the livestock had to be euthanized and the Kenworth and Trailer are considered a total loss. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, the Arlington fire department and first responders, Edgewood Auto, and a large animal vet.

On July 15, 2026, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ashley Jean Vanhyfte, age 27 of Oelwein, on a valid Fayette County Warrant for Violation of Probation (Aggravated Misdemeanor). Vanhyfte was transported to the Fayette County Jail where she is being held without bond and awaits an initial appearance from a Magistrate Judge.
On July 14, 2026 at approximately 4:14 AM a Fayette County Deputy Sheriff responded to a car v/s deer accident at Highway 3 and G Avenue. 20 year old Brady Schulmeister of Oelwein was traveling east on Highway 3 in a 2014 Audi A6 when a deer entered the roadway and collided with the vehicle. No injuries were reported and the vehicle sustained approximately $3000 damage.
