Incident Details: On May 2nd, 2026, around 12:54pm the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office received a call from West Main Liquor Store in Calmar advising that they had refused an alcohol sale to an intoxicated patron, Irene Archer. Archer then took a bottle of alcohol anyway without permission and left the store without properly paying for it.
Later, the same day May 2nd, 2026, around 3:07pm, Deputies responded to a report of domestic abuse assault at a residence on West Lewis Street in Calmar. Irene Archer was found to be the primary aggressor and was arrested. Archer was uncooperative, and while being escorted to the patrol vehicle, she struck a deputy in the chest with her cuffed hands. While being transported in the patrol vehicle Archer slipped her handcuffs and used her handcuffs in an attempt to break the window out of the patrol vehicle.
Irene Archer was transported to the Winneshiek County Jail and charged with:

Serious Misdemeanor Domestic Abuse Assault – 2nd Offense
Serious Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief 4th Degree
Simple Misdemeanor Theft 5th Degree.

Incident/Charge: D Felony Domestic Abuse Assault of Pregnant Person with Intent to Cause Serious Injury

Incident Details: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance that had occurred at a residence on Townline Road in Decorah. Subsequently, Dalton Adam was arrested and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail for D Felony Domestic Abuse Assault of Pregnant Person with Intent to Cause Serious Injury.
A Calmar man was charged with Failure to Maintain Control after a one-vehicle accident in Winneshiek County. 21-year old Matthew Bernard Bakken of Calmar was operating a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup on May 1st at 12:16pm. Bakken was southbound on 227th Avenue when the vehicle entered the curve going too fast for the gravel roadway. Bakken lost control, the vehicle entered the ditch with it's passenger side wheel. Bakken over corrected back to the left and the vehicle slid across the roadway and entered the south ditch, rolled and came to rest on its wheels. Minor injuries reported but no medical transport. Bakken was charged with Failure to Maintain Control.
