FROM THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT FACEBOOK PAGE--The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the public aware of a scam text message circulating that claims you have a traffic violation and directs you to click a link to make a payment. We’ve been getting an influx of reports through our social media about this.

This message is fraudulent. Do not click links, do not respond, and do not send any money.

These scams are designed to create urgency and trick you into providing personal or financial information. Government agencies will not send unsolicited text messages demanding immediate payment or threatening penalties in this manner.

If you receive a message like this:

Delete it immediately

Report it as spam through your phone

Do not engage in any way

If you are ever unsure about a citation or notice, contact your local law enforcement agency or the Iowa DOT directly using verified contact information.

Please share this to help protect others in our community.
