Elgin Man Charged in Connection with One-Vehicle Accident

On September 23, 2026, at approximately 8:08 am, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Agate Road, just east of Gilbertson Park, approximately two miles east of Elgin. After further investigation, Deputies located an unoccupied White 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan in the north side ditch. The Dodge had struck a pile of rocks in the ditch . The vehicle was considered a total loss. The driver was later identified as Brian Larry Butikofer, age 54 of Elgin. Butikofer reported no injuries. Butikofer was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.
