Lansing Man Faces Meth and Other Charges After Train Performs Emergency Braking

BNSF Train Preforms Emergency Braking for Individual on Railroad Tracks

Town of Freeman, Wis. — On Saturday, September 19, 2026, Crawford County Sheriff Dale McCullick reports that the Crawford County Communications Center received a report from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) regarding a male subject on the railroad tracks. The train was forced to perform emergency braking.

Law enforcement responded to the area and located the male subject walking along Highway 35. During contact with the individual, he displayed indicators of drug impairment and refused to identify himself. The male also attempted to discard drug paraphernalia containing a crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

The male subject was subsequently identified as Ryan Troendle, 42, of Lansing, Iowa. Troendle was found to have multiple active warrants out of Iowa related to assault and burglary. Troendle was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail on the following charges; possession of methamphetamine, obstructing an officer, and outstanding Iowa warrants. BNSF also issued Troendle a citation for Trespassing.
