Fayette Man Faces Charges in Sexual Assault Case

After a month-long investigation Shawn Elliot Kuhse, 18 of Fayette IA, was arrested and charged with numerous felonies pending a sexual assault and drug investigation.   In late March of 2026, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a possible sexual assault in Fayette IA, where a suspect was enticing, grooming, and distributing illegal substances to minor.  On 3-24-26, Fayette County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at 104 Alexander St. Fayette IA, where marijuana, THC Edibles, and paraphernalia were seized from the home.   Further interviews and forensic phone evidence showed Kuhse attempting to sexually assault another minor at the residence and offering illegal substances in exchange of sexual favors.  On 4/22/26 Kuhse was arrested on multiple Fayette County Arrest Warrants for Distributing illegal Substances to persons under 18, a Class B Felony, Lascivious Acts with a Child-Solicitation, Enticing a Minor Under 16 for Sexual Purpose, and Grooming, all Class D Felonies  Kuhse was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both Misdemeanors.   Kuhse was taken into custody and transported to Fayette County Jail where he was held on, bond was set in the amount of $25,300.00 cash only. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Iowa Department of Health Human Services.
