Felony Assault on a Peace Officer

Incident Details: Deputies responded to a residence on Ranch Road to check the welfare on Jordan Schaller after he made concerning comments to a friend. When the deputy arrived on scene he spoke with the father who advised Schaller was not at the residence. A few moments later, Schaller appeared armed with a 20-gauge shotgun walking across the lawn towards the deputy. After the deputy issued several demands to drop the gun, Schaller discharged the gun several times into the ground and refused to comply with the deputy’s commands. Additional deputies arrived on scene to assist. K9 Drago was released on Schaller. K9 Drago engaged Schaller by biting the shotgun out of his hand and disarming him. K9 Drago safely brought the loaded shotgun back to deputies and the situation was resolved without incident or injury to any of the parties.

Jordan Schaller was arrested and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail. Schaller is charged with Felony Assault on a Peace Officer – Use/Display of a Firearm, D Felony Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, D Felony Assault while Participating in a Felony and Serious Misdemeanor Harassment – 2nd Degree.

After Schaller’s arrest, search warrants were obtained and executed as a part of the follow up investigation. This case remains under investigation with additional charges pending.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Emergency Management and the Winneshiek County Attorney’s Office.

On July 15, 2025, Jordan Schaller had his initial appearance before Magistrate Moonen and was held on a $21,500 cash bond.
