Grant County Authorities Release Information on High Speed Arrest and Two Accidents

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for OWI 3rd
On 08/21/2026, at 7:58pm, a Grant County Deputy observed a motorcycle traveling 92mph in a 55mph zone, on highway 61, near Townhall road, in the Town of Marion. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop with the motorcycle for the speed violation. During the course of the investigation, the Deputy determined the driver, 68-year-old Kurt Schultz, of Boscobel, to be under the influence of alcohol. Schultz was subsequently arrested for OWI 3rd offense and a probation hold, and transported to the Grant County Jail.
1 Vehicle Crash leading to OWI Arrest
On 08/23/2026, at 12:51am, the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a report of a one-vehicle crash with possible minor injuries, on CTH O, in Harrison Township. Along with law enforcement, first responders from Potosi Fire and Potosi EMS were dispatched to the scene,.
When deputies arrived on scene, they learned, Jessica Kieler, 37, of Belmont, was east bound on County Highway O in a 2021 Ford Explorer. Kieler's vehicle drifted off the roadway into the ditch, continuing parallel to the roadway. The vehicle then struck a series of trees before going down a steep hill, and coming to rest against a tree.
Kieler was uninjured in the crash, but her vehicle sustained disabling damage. During the course of the investigation, Deputies determined Kieler was under the influence of alcohol. Kieler was ultimately arrested and cited for OWI 1st Offense and failure to maintain control.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Potosi EMS, Potosi Fire, and Donnies Tire and Auto of Dickyville.
Two-Vehicle Crash
On August 23, 2026, at 4:57 p.m., The Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash with reported minor injuries, at the intersection of Highway 18 and CTH F, in Fennimore Township. Along with a deputy from the Sheriff's Office, first responders from Fennimore Fire and Fennimore EMS were dispatched to the scene.
The crash was witnessed by a City of Fennimore Police Officer. The investigation determined 17 year old Grace Wanek (Muscoda), was traveling Northbound on CTH F, when she failed to stop at the stop sign. As a result of failing to stop at the stop sign, her vehicle was struck by Kristal Davenport, 66, (Fennimore), who was traveling eastbound on Hwy 18.
Wanek had 2 minor passengers in her vehicle, and Davenport was traveling along. One of the passengers in Wanek's vehicle, and Davenport reported minor injuries, but were not transported. Both vehicle were towed from the scene due to damage.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Fennimore Police Department, Collision Specialists, Haase Towing, Fennimore Fire Department, and Fennimore EMS. Westbound 18 was closed for approximately 40 minutes.
Wanek was issued a citation for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
