Grant County Sheriff's Office Conducting a Death Investigation Involving Two Deaths

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a death investigation in the Township of Smelser, just south of Cuba City. At approximately 1:28 P.M., the Grant County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from an individual reporting two individuals with gunshot wounds outside of the residence. When law enforcement arrived, they located a male and female on the ground outside of a residence near a vehicle. The female was deceased, and first aid was rendered for the male. The male was transported to Southwest Health Center in Platteville and then transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Madison where he passed away as a result of his injuries. 

Investigators, along with the Grant County Coroner’s Office, have been working throughout the afternoon and are continuing the investigation into this incident. No identifying information is being released at this time, pending notification of family.

Both individuals were familiar with each other and this is believed to be an isolated incident. There is no threat to the public. 

No other information will be released at this time. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and additional information will be released when appropriate.
