Turkey Flood Warning Update; Flood Watch Extended

  Turkey River at Elkader affecting Clayton County.

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Iowa...

  Turkey River at Spillville affecting Winneshiek County.

.Much of the Turkey River Basin from Garber upstream through
Spillville received 2 to 5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. The
latest forecasts brings the crest at Elkader lower due to lower
forecast precipitation amounts this evening as well as a slower
routing from upstream locations. Much of the uncertainty in these
river forecasts stems from uncertainty in how fast the water will
flow downstream with time.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars
through flooded areas.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Turkey River at Garber.

* WHEN...Until Monday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, The earthen levee at Elkport is threatened,
  just upstream of Garber.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 2:15 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 19.9 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 15.0 feet.
  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending
    at 2:15 PM CDT Saturday was 19.9 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 24.9 feet
    just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage
    early Monday morning.
  - Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
  - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 24.8
    feet on 02/09/1966.

* WHERE...Turkey River at Spillville.

* WHEN...Until Monday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Water begins to impact lower portions of
  campsites at Riverside Park Campground. Additional water begins to
  wrap around portions of Riverside Park, reaching the baseball field
  bleachers.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 2:30 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 5.2 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 8.0 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late
    tonight to a crest of 10.6 feet early tomorrow afternoon. It will
    then fall below flood stage late tomorrow evening.
  - Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
  - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 10.7
    feet on 03/30/1960.

  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending
    at 2:45 PM CDT Saturday was 15.4 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 18.3 feet
    just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage
    early Monday morning.
  - Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
  - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 18.5
    feet on 03/14/2019.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
  possible.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast Iowa, including the following
  counties, Clayton and Fayette and southwest Wisconsin, including
  the following county, Grant.

* WHEN...Through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Area
  creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy
  rain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Widespread rain will continue through the overnight with
    additional rainfall amounts of up to 2 inches possible.
