CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa – Great Give Day, Eastern Iowa’s biggest day of giving, will take place Wednesday, May 20, with nonprofits from across Clayton County participating.

Giving is easy! Go to greatgiveday.org anytime from midnight to 11:59 p.m. May 20 and donate to as many of the participating nonprofits as you’d like.

Great Give Day is hosted by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and its eight affiliates, including the Clayton County Foundation for the Future. The goal of this 24-hour, online giving event is simple: Inspire people to come together and give as much as possible to support local nonprofits.

“Our community shines on Great Give Day,” says Emily Sadewasser, executive director of the Clayton County Foundation for the Future. “We appreciate everyone who contributes. Every gift makes a difference.”

In 2025, Great Give Day set a new donation record, raising $640,000 for nonprofits across Eastern Iowa, including $92,600 for Clayton County nonprofits. This year, the Community Foundation aims to top that record, setting a goal of $700,000.

All gifts on Great Give Day directly support participating nonprofits. As in years past, organizations choose to direct gifts to their endowment funds or toward specific programs and projects. Gifts of $50 or more to an endowment fund are eligible for the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit.

Throughout the day, organizations compete for $30,000 in bonus prizes sponsored by local businesses. Prizes are awarded for social media participation as well as accomplishments like “most gifts in an hour.” The Foundation also provides a match of up to $250 for participating Clayton County nonprofits that raise $300 or more, thanks to the LeRoy and Colleen Darby Family Endowed Donor Advised Fund. Keep track of prize hours throughout the day by checking greatgiveday.org, following the Community Foundation and #greatgiveday on social media.

The Community Foundation established Great Give Day 13 years ago as part of its work to strengthen nonprofits in the Dubuque region. Since then, it has raised more than $4.2 million for local organizations.

Behind the final tallies are additional outcomes that build strong nonprofits. Many organizations start endowment funds with the Foundation so people can give to them on Great Give Day and beyond. These funds are invested, continue to grow, and pay out each year to sustain nonprofits’ work.
