July 20th Scores--Ed-Co Advances in Winners Bracket by Upending Number One Seed Exira-EHK!

Addy Schmelzer hit two home runs and Rachel Eglseder struck out fifteen as the Vikings advanced with a 6-3 win over Exira-Elk Horn-Kimbalton in the Class 1-A Opening Round Game. Schmelzer hit a solo shot to left in the second to tie the game at 1-1. Schmelzer then added a two-run shot to right-center field in the sixth to put the Vikings up for good at 5-3. Eglseder drove in the final run in the top of the 7th after a Faith Dugan double. Eglseder allowed only three hits and got into trouble in the bottom of the fifth but got out of the inning tied 3-3. Eglseder walked the first two batters and an intentional walked loaded the bases. The Spartans Riley Miller, who had all three of their hits, drove in two with a single to even the score. Eglseder recorded a strikeout to keep the game tied after five. Eglseder then struck out the side in the sixth and retired Exira-EHK in order in the 7th. For Ed-Co, McKenna Hoefer had two hits, Chloe Everitt drove in two. Faith Kirby scored two runs and Lauren Kirby scored once. The Vikings improve to 28 and 10. They will face Southeast Warren in the Winners Bracket on Tuesday at 12:45pm. SE Warren advanced with a 21-8 four-inning win over West Monona. Exira-EHK, now 22 and 5, faces West Monona in the Consolation Round. KCTN will broadcast the Ed-Co-Southeast Warren matchup. The On-Deck Show starts at 12:15pm, Game time at 12:45!
