July 21st Scores--Ed-Co Outslugs Southeast Warren to Advance in the 1-A State Winners Bracket

The Vikings erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to break open a tied game and they made enough plays down the stretch to close out an 8-5 win over Southeast Warren. Rachel Eglseder, Addi Schmelzer, and Kara Knipper each delivered two r-b-i singles in the inning. Faith Dugan went 3 for 4, including a double to start the fifth. Ava Hoefer singled and Eglsder drove both in. McKenna Hoefer added a hit and after a Lauren Kirby sacrifice moved runners to second and third, Addy Shmelzer drove in two with her second hit of the game. Kara Knipper finished the scoring by driving home the final pair. Knipper had two hits and drove in three for the game. Courtesy/Pinch Runners, Eva Vaske, Josie Diers, and Faith Kirby all scored runs with Vaske scoring twice. Eglseder went seven innings allowed six hits, one earned run, walked one and struck out five. For Southeast Warren, Madison Olsasky had two hits and an r-b-i. Lexi Clendenen and Belle Ewing each had hits and scored twice. The Warhawks saw their season come to an end last night with a 5-4 loss to Exira-Elk Horn Kimbalton in the Consolation to close the year 23 and 6. Ed-Co improves to 29 and 10, the Vikings will play Exira-Elk Horn Kimbalton at 12:45 on Wednesday afternoon. KCTN will broadcast that game on Wednesday afternoon. A Viking win moves them into the Championship and Exira-EHK would have to beat Ed-Co twice to advance.
