Oelwein man arrested on warrant, Garnavillo woman charged with burglary, three-vehicle accident and a theft arrest

On 2-17-26 at approximately 8:45 a.m. a Fayette County Deputy arrested John A. Kringlen, 64 of Oelwein. Kringlen turned himself into the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and was booked into the Fayette County jail. Kringlen was wanted for possession of marijuana 3rd or subsequent offense, class D felony. Bond was set in the amount of $5000.00 cash or surety. The second warrant was for possession of drug paraphernalia and bond was set in the amount of $300.00 cash or surety. Kringlen remained in custody pending his initial appearance. (photo)



On February 16, 2025, at approximately 12:03 a.m., Fayette County 911 received a report of a burglary in progress in the City of Elgin. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, a suspect was located in the residence and was ordered to exit.  After an investigation it was learned that 30-year-old Katie Hoilien of Garnavillo was located inside.  She was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Hoilien was charged with burglary 2nd Degree and is awaiting her initial appearance before the court.


On February 14, 2026, at approximately 11:35 am, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls reference a three vehicle accident at Highway 3 and Y Avenue, approximately two miles north of Oran. After further investigation, it was determined that Donna Mae Winter, age 69 of Waterloo, was operating a Red 2024 Toyota Rav4 XLE south bound on Y Avenue when she failed to yield at the intersection along Highway 3, and pulled out in the path of Ryan Andrew Dietzenbach, age 49 of Oelwein, who was operating a Black 2020 Ford F150 Supercrew Truck east bound on Highway 3. Dietzenbach struck Winter’s Toyota and then rolled and collided with another vehicle that was resting at the stop sign at the adjacent intersection. The other vehicle was a Silver 2019 Ram 150 Rebel Truck operated by Todd William Briddle, age 55 of Readlyn. Winter was temporarily trapped inside the Toyota before being mechanically extracted by the Oran Fire Department. Winter received minor injuries and was treated on scene.  The Toyota is considered a total loss. Winter received a citation for Failure to Yield the Right of Way.  Dietzenbach, and a passenger, both received minor injuries and were treated on scene. The Ford is considered a total loss. Dietzenbach received a citation for Operating without valid Registration. Briddle received no injuries. The Ram  received approximately $1500 in damages. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Oran First Responders, Oran Fire Department, and Fairbank Ambulance. (photo)

 

 On February 13, 2026, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office took a report of several bags of beer cans that were stolen from Hootie's Bar in Auburn. Upon investigation, it was learned that the cans were taken to the redemption center in Calmar and cashed in.  Deputies identified and arrested 45-year-old Flora Mae Epley of Oelwein for the theft.  She was charged with Theft in the 5th Degree, and Driving While License Suspended.  She was transported to the Fayette County Jail where she was held for an initial appearance in court.
