Oelwein Police Release Information on Two Accidents and an Arrest Incident

On August 9, 2026, at 12:53am, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Frederick. As a result of this stop, James Dylan Poole, 34, of Sumner IA, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated – 1st Offense – Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana – 1st Offense – Serious Misdemeanor, and Open Container – Driver – Scheduled Violation. Additionally, Poole received citations for Registration Violation, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and an Equipment Repair Order for License Plate Lamp.

 

At 12:55am, Oelwein Officers received a report of a subject causing a disturbance in the 400 block of North Frederick. As a result of the investigation, Domanick Ray Fowlkes, 33, of Oelwein, was arrested for Public Intoxication – Simple Misdemeanor. This investigation is still ongoing, and further charges may be filed.


At 1:54pm on August 6, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 200 block of W Charles St.  The investigation showed that a white 2016 Ford F150 driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile struck the side of a silver 2015 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Rhonda Marie Williams, 59, of Oelwein.  The juvenile driver had failed to yield to traffic from their parallel parking space and pulled out alongside and then struck the passenger side of the vehicle driven by Williams, who was heading westbound on W Charles St.  Initial estimates of damages were $7,500 to the vehicle driven by Williams and $5,500 to the vehicle driven by the juvenile.  The juvenile was assigned fault for the accident and issued a citation for Unsafe Starting of a Stopped Vehicle.  No injuries were reported.  Oelwein Police were assisted by Midwest Towing and Collision and B&L Body Repair.
