Ohio Man Arrested in Clayton County on Nationwide Warrant for Probation Violation

On Monday, July 28, 2026, at approximately 11:28 p.m., a Clayton County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 76 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 52 near 260th Street.

The driver was identified as Brandon Thompson, 33, of Garfield Heights, Ohio. During the investigation, deputies learned Thompson's Ohio driver's license was suspended and that he was wanted on a nationwide extraditable warrant from Cuyahoga County, Ohio, for a probation violation. Thompson indicated he was aware of the warrant and acknowledged he was essentially absconding from Ohio. The warrant was confirmed, and Thompson was taken into custody without incident.

During the traffic stop, deputies detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of suspected THC and drug paraphernalia.

Thompson was charged in Iowa with:

1. Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)

2. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

3. Driving While License Suspended

Thompson is currently being held in the Clayton County Jail pending extradition to Ohio.
