Waterloo man arrested on warrant and a Clermont man arrested in connection with search warrant

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on 12/18/25, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office was notified of a safety concern referencing two males in dark clothing walking along P Ave outside Maynard attempting to wave down cars. Contact was made by a Fayette County Deputy who transported the males to a residence in Maynard. At that time, it was confirmed one of the subjects had a warrant for his arrest out of Appanoose county. Brian Gerald Knecht, 30 of Waterloo, was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was held on the Appanoose county warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of Fail to pay child support with a bond of $1000 cash only.  

 

On December 19th, 2025, at approximately 9:00 PM  Fayette County Deputies conducted a search warrant on the residences of 106 & 108 Clay Street, Clermont, IA. During the search warrant, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were located. While executing the search warrant a wanted male subject arrived on scene and was taken into custody. Subsequently, Caleb Justin Hammel (age 19) of Clermont was placed under arrest for 3 Failure to Appear warrants, Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana 1st Offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Caleb was transported and held at the Fayette County Jail for his initial appearance. Caleb was also issued citations for Fraudulent use of registration, Driving while license suspended and Driving while license revoked. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
