Waucoma man charged with Eluding and other charges after traffic stop incident in Fayette County

On June 21, 2026, at approximately 6:38 p.m., a Fayette County deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Nicholas Olliney, 39, of Waucoma.
The deputy witnessed Olliney driving while his license was revoked and he had an active arrest warrant from Bremer County for Theft in the Fifth Degree. After the deputy attempted the traffic stop, Olliney led law enforcement on brief high-speed pursuit through the City of Waucoma before Fleeing into rural Chickasaw County.
Olliney then exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. A search was conducted utilizing a drone and K-9 units. Olliney was later located hiding in a cornfield and surrendered without incident.
Nicholas Olliney was transported to the Fayette County Jail. He has been charged with: Eluding – Speed 25 mph Over the Limit – Second or Subsequent Offense (Class C Felony), Driving While License Revoked (Serious Misdemeanor), Failure to File SR-22 Insurance, and Reckless Driving. In addition, Olliney received multiple traffic infractions.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office, Chickasaw County Rescue Squad, Chickasaw County EMS, Howard County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, Floyd County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, West Union Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Tieskoetter Collision. This incident remains under investigation.
