West Union City Council approves separation with City Clerk/Administrator Dexter Wallis

The West Union City Council approved a contractural separation with City Administrator Dexter Wallis. The Council met in closed session on Friday afternoon. After the closed session the council approved a resolution that removes Dexter Wallis as City Clerk/Administrator. Wallis was appointed to the position in September of 2025.



Council Chambers, City Hall, June 26, 2026, at 3:30 P.M

West Union City Council met June 26, 2026, at 3:30 P.M. in Council Chambers with Mayor Kent Halverson presiding. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.


Attendance Present: Becthold, DeBack, Gumm, McElree, and Tope.


Approval of the Motion to approve the agenda as presented was made by DeBack,

Agenda seconded by Becthold. All Aye. Carried.


Closed Session Per Motion to was made by DeBack, seconded by Gumm, to go into closed session

Iowa Code 21.5(1)(a) per Iowa Code 21.5(1)(a) “to review or discuss records which are required or

authorized by state or federal law to be kept confidential…” at 3:34 pm. The

proposed closed session has been reviewed and found appropriate under the

referenced Iowa Code Section by the City Attorney. After discussion, motion was made by Gumm, seconded by Becthold, to leave the closed session at 3:49 pm. All Aye. Carried.


Approval of Return Motion was made by Becthold, seconded by Gumm, to go into open session at

To Open Session 3:49 pm. All Aye. Carried.


Approval of Motion to approve Resolution 2026-17 approving the contractual separation/

Resolution 2026-17 removal of City Clerk/Administrator Dexter Wallis was made by DeBack,

Contractual Separation/ seconded by Becthold. All Aye. Carried.

Meeting Council Chambers.


Adjourn With no further business to bring before the Council, a motion was made by Gumm, seconded by Becthold, to adjourn. All Aye. Carried.
