Fayette County Authorities release information on two-vehicle accident and a Clermont man arrested on Eluding and other charges.

On 3/15/2026 at approximately 8:42 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a report of a rollover vehicle at the 12,000 block of HWY 18 with occupants still inside. When a deputy arrived on scene, both occupants were out of the vehicle. During the investigation, it was learned that the driver, Vanel Kerlegrande 43 from Postville, lost control due to the severe weather conditions causing the vehicle to roll into the ditch. No injuries were reported. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by West Union Police Department, West Union Fire Department, and Gunderson Ambulance.

On February 8, 2026, at 9:27AM, a Fayette County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a black Dodge Charger with no registration in the City of Clermont. The driver attempted to elude the deputy, and a chase ensued. After a short pursuit, the deputy identified the driver and disregarded the chase due to safety reasons. After an investigation, a warrant was issued for 19-year-old Caleb Justin Hammel of Clermont. He was charged with Eluding (Serious Misdemeanor), Reckless Driving, Driving While License Suspended x2, 2 counts of Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device, Unsafe Passing, Failure to Maintain a Registration Plate, and Failure to Prove Security Against Liability. On March 14th, 2026, at approximately 2:22PM, a Fayette County Deputy located Caleb Justin Hammel (age 19) of Clermont and placed him under arrest for the charges listed above. He was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he posted a $1,600 Bond and was released.
