Oelwein Police Release Information on Two Minor Accidents and Warrant Arrest

On August 23, 2026, at 10:44pm, Oelwein Officers responded to and investigated a minor two car accident at the intersection of 1st Avenue and East Charles. A red Chevy 1500, driven by Pamela Bell, was traveling Northbound in the inside lane. Bell attempted to turn right into the outside lane, striking a Gray Kia Sportage, driven by Johnny Ketelsen. Bell was found to be at fault for the accident. Initial damage estimates are $3,000 dollars of damage to Bell’s vehicle and $4,000 of Damage to Ketelsen’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.
At 1:55am on August 20, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Tony Terrell Stewart, 22, of Oelwein. Stewart was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 700 block of 1st St NW.
At 4:54pm on August 20, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 10 block of E Charles St. The investigation showed that a white 2015 Range Rover Evoque, driven by Richard Wright, 59, of Oelwein, was attempting to reverse out of a one-way alley when they struck the passenger side of a white 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Elizabeth Susan Schmidtke, 38, of Oelwein, who was travelling westbound on E Charles St. Initial estimates of damages were $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Wright and $6,000 to the vehicle driven by Schmidtke. There were no injuries reported. Wright was assigned fault for the accident and was issued a citation for Violating One-Way Traffic Designation.
