West Union City Council met July 6, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. in Council Chambers with Mayor Kent Halverson presiding. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Attendance Present: Becthold, DeBack, Gumm, McElree, and Tope.

Approval of the Motion to approve the agenda as presented was made by Gumm, seconded by

Agenda Tope. All Aye. Carried.

Approval of Motion to approve the June 15, June 26, and July 1, 2026, Council Meeting

Minutes minutes as presented was made by Gumm, seconded by DeBack. All Aye. Carried.

Approval to Lift the Motion to approve lifting the Street Dept moratorium of not being allowed to

Street Dept work outside of city limits was made by Tope, seconded by McElree. All Aye.

Approval to Sponsor Motion to approve sponsorship of Palmer Memorial Foundation Golf

Palmer Memorial Tournament was made by DeBack, seconded by Gumm. No – Tope. All Rest –

Foundation Golf Aye. Carried. City will pay $700, and the Chamber and Fair Boards will pay

Tournament $500, to sponsor at the $1,200 Ace Level.

Approval of RFP for Motion to approve authorization of an RFP for a city-wide single-hauler

City-Wide Single- residential garbage contract was made by Becthold, seconded by DeBack. No –

Hauler Residential Gumm. All Rest – Aye. Carried.

Discuss Raising After some discussion, motion to table raising franchise fees was made by

Franchise Fees Gumm, seconded by Tope. All Aye. Carried.

Discuss Request to After some discussion, motion to refer request to rename the West Union Aquatic

Rename the West Center to the Park and Rec Board was made by McElree, seconded by Tope. All

Union Aquatic Center Aye. Carried.

Discuss Park and Rec After some discussion, motion to post for the Park and Rec Director opening and

Director Hiring to schedule a work session to discuss the position was made by Becthold, seconded by DeBack. All Aye. Carried.

Next Council Next regular council meeting will be July 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in

Meeting Council Chambers.

Adjourn With no further business to bring before the Council, a motion was made by

Gumm, seconded by Becthold, to adjourn. All Aye. Carried.
