At around 1:40pm on January 15, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Terry Timothy Ray Terrell Shepard, 49, of Oelwein.  Shepard was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse (By Force) - Class C Felony.  This arrest was made in the 800 block of 2nd Ave SE. The Postville City Council approved an ordinance dealing with Housing Code Plans of Inspection. The move means that landlords will need to hire an inspector for their properties and the city will no longer provide one. The findings then must be reported back to the city. The Guttenberg City Council accepted a bid of nearly 338-thousand dollars for a Paving and Storm Sewer Project by the school. Work on the project is expected to begin in early April. The Council also approved an Engineering Agreement for the project, not to exceed 50-thousand dollars. The Council set February 9th as the date for the public hearing for the proposed issuance of 1.3 million dollars worth of bonds to the Guttenberg Economic, Industrial, Development Committee.

One Vehicle Crash in Township of Patch Grove  On January 09, 2026, the Grant County Sheriff's Office Communication Center was notified of a one-vehicle crash on CTY P near Morgan Road, in Patch Grove Township. On 1-9-26, at 9:30 PM, Matthew Sterling Morris, 44 of Oelwein, turned himself into the Fayette County Sheriff's Office on an arrest warrant.  Fayette County Arrest Warrant was for probation violation.  Morris was booked into Fayette County Jail with a bail amount of $5,000 cash surety.

At 3:36pm on January 8, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Rock Island Rd and 7th St SE.  A white 2024 Ford Edge, driven by Diane Sperfslage of Aurora, was stopped at a red light when they were rearended by a silver 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Tyler Klenzman of Fairbank.  Initial estimates of damages were $2,500 to the vehicle driven by Sperfslage and $1,500 to the vehicle driven by Klenzman.  Klenzman admitted fault for

On January 10 th , 2026, at approximately 12:29 p.m., a Garnavillo police officer was conducting stationary patrol on Main Street when they observed a vehicle travelling 13 miles per hour above the posted speed limit in the 20-mph zone. On January 6, 2026 at approximately 5:33 AM a Fayette County Deputy came across a vehicle with damage and deer carcasses on Highway 150 south of the city of Fayette.  Upon investigation it was determined 67-year-old Bonita Oliver of Ossian was northbound on Highway 150 in a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado when two deer entered the roadway.  Oliver’s vehicle struck the deer causing disabling damage.  No injuries were reported and the vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 damage.   On

On January 6 th , 2026, at approximately 3:37 PM, The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Harding Road/Diamond Road.
