This charge was filed after completion of an investigation by Oelwein Police and Health and Human Services of an incident that occurred on July 31, 2026. A Waterloo man died in a motorcycle accident in Winneshiek County. 65-year old Russell James Knudson died in the accident. Authorities report the accident happened on August 22nd at 5:54pm on Old Stage Road. Knudson was operating a 2008 Harley Davidson westbound when the vehicle left the north side of the roadway while negotiating a curve. A Fort Atkinson teen was charged in connection with a two-vehicle accident in Winneshiek County. 15-year old Braylon Neal Holthaus was charged with Unsafe Backing on Highway. The accident occurred on August 24th at 8am on 237th Avenue. Holthaus was operating a 2010 Buick Lucerne and was backing out of a driveway. The Elkader City Council approved a resolution to enter into a loan agreement for the purchase of a new Ambulance. The resolution provides for the issuance of 270-thousand dollars in general obligation bonds to help fund the purchase. The new Ambulance is expected to arrive later this year or in early 2027. On August 22, 2026, at approx. 1:35 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident that involved the striking of a bridge head on. After further investigation, it was determined that Christopher Lee Becker, age 43 of Fayette, was operating a Red 1980 GMC Sierra Classic 15 west bound when he lost control and struck a bridge head on. Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for OWI 3rd On 08/21/2026, at 7:58pm, a Grant County Deputy observed a motorcycle traveling 92mph in a 55mph zone, on highway 61, near Townhall road, in the Town of Marion. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop with the motorcycle for the speed violation. On August 23, 2026, at 10:44pm, Oelwein Officers responded to and investigated a minor two car accident at the intersection of 1st Avenue and East Charles. A red Chevy 1500, driven by Pamela Bell, was traveling Northbound in the inside lane. Bell attempted to turn right into the outside lane, striking a Gray Kia Sportage, driven by Johnny Ketelsen. On Friday, August 21st, 2026, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a Garnavillo Police Officer was on routine patrol conducting stationary radar on Main Street in Garnavillo. The officer observed a vehicle travelling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed through town.
